Construction supervision is needed once design becomes work on site. It protects the client from uncontrolled changes, undocumented instructions, poor workmanship, weak progress records, and disputes over what was approved, varied, inspected, or completed.
For public and institutional projects, supervision is also part of the accountability record. Site instructions, inspection notes, progress reports, variation records, payment-certification support, and handover documentation may be reviewed long after completion.
Shomax provides contract administration and construction supervision under FIDIC Red Book and Yellow Book conditions. For public and county commissions, the supervision file also has to satisfy the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015, which prescribes how variations, payments, and disputes must be evidenced. On site, the same file has to satisfy the Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2007 — incident records, method statements, worker-safety documentation — which auditors read alongside the engineering record. Eng. Shoni's public-works background is especially relevant here: a former Chief Structural Engineer is fluent in what those records have to show.
